Why This Author ‘Fell in Love with Libraries’

Peg MeierPeg Meier is an author, a retired reporter for the Star Tribune, and a lover of local history. During her 35 years working at the paper, Peg wrote feature stories “about wonderful people who had something good to say about life. Who can find fault with that kind of job?”

Early in her career, Peg began covering updates on the library system. She admits, “I fell in love with libraries.” While writing her book, Bring Warm Clothes, Peg dug into the archives. “One of the great advantages of Minneapolis Central Library was that they had that Minneapolis History collection. “When I heard about that, I had to make an appointment!” she recalls.

Over the years, Peg passed afternoons with research, prepared author biographies for her long-standing book club, eavesdropped on heartwarming Storytimes, and dug into everyday curiosities at the library. With a wide grin, Peg shares: “Librarians just know so much!”

“My gosh! Working with teens and the Homework Help students…helping people learn to love to read…everything the library does, I’m all for it!”

Peg recognizes her power to impact the causes closest to her heart; “I like to give back to organizations that have been so great to me. You pick a few places to give that are special, that can help someone.”

Peg is proud to support an organization she believes in and that has benefited her life and career. “The library is fantastic!” To explore how you can join Peg in helping others through Friends of the Hennepin County Library, contact Kristi Pearson at 612-986-6086 or kpearson@hclib.org.
